The original work, representing a small calf under the mother suckling, was realized on a high quality smooth panel, which allowed a great freedom of realization of details. It was framed with a cream border to match the tan colors of the Salers cows. The fir frame was hand stained with natural pigments, walnut stain. It took several layers to give this rustic dark brown color. The pigment was fixed with linseed oil and then glossed. Thus, the wood grain is slightly visible. This painting, thus framed, will fit perfectly in a rustic and modern interior.
