ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Polar Bear and the Ice Shelf – Artwork Analysis

In this painting, I chose to represent the polar bear in an unusual pose: total immersion. I focused on this close-up to draw attention to the animal's expression. Its eyes are closed, and I included the detail of air bubbles escaping its muzzle to mark this moment of transition between two breaths, or two worlds.

My approach here is to bear witness to the fragility of this predator as its hunting grounds shrink. By painting this bear underwater, I am suggesting a vital dilemma: the necessity of swimming to reach a diminishing ice shelf, at the risk of exhaustion. The palette of blues and the play of light in the water allow me to convey an atmosphere that is both serene and precarious.

This work is part of my ongoing reflection on wildlife and current climatic shifts.

"Dare Dare", Quick Analysis of a Work of Art:

"With global warming, the ice shelf is melting, and the polar bear finds it increasingly difficult to live and survive on a hunting territory that is shrinking day by day. At this rate, this magnificent predator risks disappearing from the face of the Earth. My painting shows a polar bear underwater, eyes closed, letting out air bubbles.

A bear that will either return to the surface and live, or allow itself to be swallowed by the sea. Indeed, this strong swimmer, without its precious ice, is condemned to drown—weakened by lack of food and exhausted from trying to swim toward a hypothetical piece of ice. It is the responsibility of us all to ensure this magnificent animal does not disappear from the planet."
