This small miniature painting done in oil on a panel represents a swallow on an iron bar. She flapped her wings as her parents approached and brought her insects to give her strength for the long journey.

One autumn morning, I was able to watch through my bedroom window the incessant ballet of swallows coming to feed their young who had perched on the iron bars supporting a large climbing rose. Each time the parents arrived, the little ones flapped their wings. Their instinct was to gain strength for the great journey ahead.
I chose the handmade colors from Schaal to have the purest pigments. I wanted the orange colors of the background to remind me of the beautiful autumn lights.
