Animal painter Laurence Saunois and the Farm Animals

My childhood was marked by the presence of farm animals. My grandfather owned a tiny farm where a few chickens, rabbits, and a Salers cow named Poumelle lived. I learned very early on to observe them and enjoy their company.

These memories have shaped my artistic vision. Farm animals, often considered ordinary, have a real presence that deserves attention. Even today, this longstanding closeness to animals continues to influence my approach to drawing and painting, in a desire to represent living creatures accurately and respectfully.
