Nympheus Luminansis, Duality of Lights

CURRENTLY ON DISPLAY
Nympheus Luminansis, Water Lilies of Light, is a series of paintings paying tribute to Claude Monet's famous water garden and his water lilies, the result of eight years of research and creation. Presented in an international museum exhibition, it invites viewers to explore the heart of color and light.
“In each painting, shapes and silhouettes can reveal themselves to the viewer depending on their perception, creating a unique dialogue with the work. This phenomenon, known as pareidolia, adds a poetic and playful dimension to the contemplation of colors and textures.” Laurence Saunois
Behind the scene

In this artwork, the artist chooses a composition structured by a diagonal line that divides the canvas into two distinct worlds. On one side, the reflections of the plants stand out with intensity; on the other, the sky unfolds on the surface of the water, giving the impression that two worlds coexist and respond to each other. The water, an elusive mirror, blurs the landmarks and hints at its depth through the stems of water lilies that rise to the surface.
The floating leaves seem light, some hesitating to emerge completely, as if suspended between two states. The artist has surreptitiously slipped in two “butterfly reflections,” symbols of a subtle transformation: they embody the idea of a passage, a movement from shadow to light, from the intimate to the visible world. These details offer the viewer a poetic and discreet interpretation, like keys to understanding the scene.
Dualité de lumières highlights the contrasts that run through life: what is seen and what remains hidden, stability and movement, light and darkness. The artwork invites us to contemplate these transitional zones and to perceive the subtlety of fleeting moments, reminding us that changes and discreet emergences are both fragile and essential. Each reflection and each detail then becomes a metaphor for the feelings, emotions, and transitions that each of us experiences internally, invisible but powerful.

MATERIALS USED
Canvases: I used canvases from Matertoiles to create the paintings in the Nympheus Luminansis series.
Oil paint: To achieve such vibrant colors, I worked with Schaal brand oil paints. Made by a master colorist in the purest tradition using linseed or walnut oils, they are very rich in pigments and enhance every brushstroke.
