Nympheus Luminansis, Vibrant Lights

CURRENTLY ON DISPLAY
Nympheus Luminansis, Water Lilies of Light, is a series of paintings paying tribute to Claude Monet's famous water garden and his water lilies, the result of eight years of research and creation. Presented in an international museum exhibition, it invites viewers to explore the heart of color and light.
“In each painting, shapes and silhouettes can reveal themselves to the viewer depending on their perception, creating a unique dialogue with the work. This phenomenon, known as pareidolia, adds a poetic and playful dimension to the contemplation of colors and textures.” Laurence Saunois
Behind the scene

In this painting, the artist contrasts two realities that coexist and intermingle: the static water lilies and their reflections on the water, which vibrate under the effect of the wind. Despite the immobile and frozen nature of the water lilies, she chose to position them in her composition on a wavy line, bringing depth and visual rhythm.
The play of light on the water provides a backdrop for the leaves floating on the surface. Visitors capture the moment and feel the caress of the wind as if they were spectators watching the scene from the edge of the pond.
The blue colors used to bring the water lily leaves to life are quite intense, contrasting with the water's many shades of green. The play of light on the surface acts as a backdrop, highlighting the floating leaves. The viewer perceives the scene as if they were standing at the edge of the pond: they feel the caress of the wind and the sparkle of the reflections, in a balance where calm and movement meet.
Vibrant Lights illustrates the coexistence of two forces: the apparent stability of the water lilies and the movement of the changing reflections. This contrast evokes the variations found in existence: between constancy and transformation, silence and agitation.
With this artwork, Laurence Saunois highlights the encounter between these opposing states, as they exist in life and in the resonance of feelings. Vibrant Lights does not merely represent a pond of water lilies: it offers a visual reflection on passage, transition, and the shifting boundary between two worlds, where light is both fragile and essential.

MATERIALS USED
Canvases: I used canvases from Matertoiles to create the paintings in the Nympheus Luminansis series.
Oil paint: To achieve such vibrant colors, I worked with Schaal brand oil paints. Made by a master colorist in the purest tradition using linseed or walnut oils, they are very rich in pigments and enhance every brushstroke.
